Yes and disp=shr…. Just like the other files that did work okay and did not generate a message like this.

Are those two files specified in the start-up JCL, and if so what is the DISP?

Eric

I did check and a couple of files that did work - the script that did the deallocate and free successfully - were also SMS managed.

Diane,

Those aren't errors, just informational messages. You'll get them with any job that uses a file. The alternative to retained is "deleted" which is not what you want I'd guess.

Maybe other datasets are not SMS managed??

What do you see if you do a CEMT I FILE for these files?

Cheers

Graham

Subject: IGD104I in CICS Region

Hi,

We have a product (Synchro) that allows us to set up a batch job that will run against a CICS region to deallocate and free a dataset.  We have been using it for awhile.

The applications people are having a problem with it on a couple of files.  The Syncrho Script seems to run fine and says the file is deallocated and free'd but if you look at the file and do a "whohas" on it - it still shows the CICS region having an ENQ on the file.  What I did notice in the JESYSMSG of the region is an error for these files.  The error is -

IGD104I GUISXXX.CNTLCD.MASTER.TEST.V1                RETAINED,  DDNAME=HCDDIN

IGD104I GUISXXX.UDE.WORK.RECORDS.V1                  RETAINED,  DDNAME=UWRDDIO

Any idea on what this means?  The z/OS message manual says the SMS-managed dataset was kept at the end of a step.  But why these datasets and not the others?

TIA,
