Thanks Simcha. Like you, I had already tried the fixes listed in the link below. Either I failed to correctly apply fixes, or the fix is not there. When I searched SAS-L archives I found references to this exact problem pertaining to Explorer 5.5, including references to this tech note, but I never found any indication that anybody had actually figured out how to solve the problem. I've also received e-mails from other SAS OnLine users indicating a shared problem and requesting that I make any discovered solution known to them. I suspect there may be many of us. If you already have a ticket open with the SAS Tech folks, please let us know if they produce a cure (any you might want to insure that they are made aware that their tech note does not seem to be addressing the issue). In the mean time - has anybody solved this one?

Error: Java.Lang.NullPointerException
I. too, always get this error. It began 3 weeks ago with an upgrade in Internet Explorer. SAS is helping me track it down but with no success yet.
They sent me this link: ftp://ftp.sas.com/techsup/download/technote/ts657.html
Please let me know your progress.

We have SAS OnLine loaded on our network and when we
perform a search we get
no matches, regardless of the
search item, and we see the error "Search
Error:
Java.Lang.NullPointerException" at the bottom of the search window
frame. We are operating on an
NT server, with Windows 2000 workstations,
using MSExplorer version
6.0.2600.0000.
Thanks for the help.
