Me, too. I highly recommend taking the Myers Briggs.
This site provides a useful explanation of the 2**4 types

Huh? ... I thought you were agoraphobic .... hmmm ....

<SNIP>

oh!, so she is/was the agoraphic?

<tsk, tsk> Ah, convincing Introverts that:
Friends = Stranger + TimeSpentTalking;

And, for all those Introverts who are still struggling with their
FrozenWithFear attitudes,
I want to assure you that some of these extrovert skills -can- be learned.
Some of you might -never- guess that I'm -Formerly-Shy.  ;-)

Correct, I'd never ... <g>

<sigh> What getting past your 49th birthday will do for you!

it'll getcha 50!!!! <vbg>

My first SUGI was in San Francisco.
I didn't know there were other people from CDC.
I wore my suit, because 'business attire' was expected.

I did SUGI 13 (twilight zone them song playing in background) in Orlando back in '88; I wore long pants and shoes <g>

The next year, I brought my running shoes.
Ah, those sprints from one side of the conference center to the other.

Sort of like getting from one horseshoe to the other in the Dallas/Fort Worth airport when you only have 100 minutes to spare.

Back in the Good Ole Daze, the Proceedings were shipped to you,
-after- the conference! Think: Six weeks?!
The task of the hour was to get a copy of the presenter's paper -in-hand.

Still is -sort of- as often they have something *not* in the proceedings

Gee Whiz! Now a days: "Got CD?"

> My second SUGI was Miami Beach ...

Ah - the Fountainebleau ... just saw the re-run of The Bodyguard last night (weird, right after Best Little Whorehouse in Texas - didn't know Dolly sang "I Will Always Love You" first) ...

... the Fountainebleau, loved that top floor w/ private club room/bar that had glass on both sides: sunrises *and* sunsets from the same spot!

I remember Ian, in Miami (or was it Nashville) at the SAS-L, after the make-the-face contest (wasn't Dianne Mike? ... I was Faith Sloan <g>), commenting that he thought SAS was trying to put us all out of biz w/ it's push into services ... IIRC, Rick Langstom was flummoxed! (a rare event indeed <vbseg>)

Just a reminder that she works downstairs from Ian Whitlock.

Aha - Westat has a pecking order, too?

Still, I made it to the Top Two.  ;-)  Getting close!

"... which some may find extreme." she said.

Some? .... I'd say it's like SAS's version of Gonzo-journalism (although me thinks The Maven is perhaps more akin to Tom Wolfe than Hunter) ... now where's my koolaid? <g>

>(I had faxed him my stuff on standards)

Westat dress code?

for which I was grateful.

Remember she's an Introvert! Same type as I am!

and quite a bit of his-story, as well.

He does know harass is one word, right?

Shall we tell them the SQL we whisper to each other?
AutoMagic, that SQL!  <ggl>

Whewwww, PG, thanks - thought we were going to hear INSERTs <g>

However, this is *still* getting scary -- I thought only Ian and Marianne talked code at home (as he mentioned when presenting his Paper 40 in Miami: Code or Data?) <rotflmfao>

What parties? (long live the Queen, eh?) - well at least there's no [sic] Mystery Woman this time ...

Look at this! She's bragging about -my- being High Maintenance!

> Don't stay up too late.

Indeed - 8AM Sunday for the V9 promo; a *must* attend, if for no other reason that to solace the presenter <g>

Yeow! Where were you with this advice to my Section Chair
about the Queen Mary Kick-Back Party?

Wed 4 am, Section Chair hits the bed.
Wed 8 am, Fehd is waiting for the PC with his presentation to show up.
Has to give his own introduction,
while he is bailed out by Session Coordinator,
who goes to car to get his PC,
and Dianne who fetches disk with presentation.

Moral: Have Disk w/Presentation, Will Travel.

> Try to get over to the conference area early and get started.

What Ben Franklin said:
"Early to bed, early to rise, ..."

... 2 outa 3 ain't bad!

> And expect the unexpected, have fun!

You, too, could meet a tongue-tied Introvert,
stand around for a long enough time waiting for the -other-
to say something intelligent, finally give up in frustration,
and blurt out something like:
"Going my way? To lunch?"

I guess astrology is out these days, eh?

As I said, these Extrovert skills -can- be learned.

And there's subliminal programming, too; or as some Men at Work were won't to say:

Who Can It Be Now?
Who can it be knocking at my door?
Go 'way, don't come 'round here no more.
Can't you see that it's late at night?
I'm very tired, and I'm not feeling right.
All I wish is to be alone;
Stay away, don't you invade my home.
Best off if you hang outside,
Don't come in - I'll only run and hide.
Who can it be now?
Who can it be now?
Who can it be now?
Who can it be now?
