Faith,

Roger means that Win2k will have built-in telnet server capability, not just a telnet client.Of course there are a number of third party telnet server add-ons for WinNT/Win95/Win98 currently available, including one distributed in Microsoft's own Windows NT Server Resource Kit. Maybe that's what you mean.

To answer Roger's question, the answer is yes and no. My understanding is that SI have removed character mode (dumb terminal) SAS Display Manager capability in Version 7/8 on all operating systems except mainframes (for which Version 7/8 is not yet available?). So you would be only able to run batch mode SAS via telnet connecting to a remote Win2k box. This is not so bad: edit in character mode emacs using sas-mode, batch submit from within emacs, examine the log and output in separate emacs buffers. Nearly as good as having character-mode display manager (and better in many respects, because you have a decent editor with emacs). Of course, SI will be quick to point out that you need to license SAS for Windows NT Server (at about three times the cost of SAS for Windows) if you have more than more than one user using SAS via telnet in such a fashion on the one server.

Hi Roger. Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0 currently have telnet already.
