GABO

This afternoon I was mtn. biking and birding on Lavender Mtn. above Berry College. There is quiet an invasion or plague of catepillars making an assault on the mtn. The chestnut oaks seem to be taken the brunt of the assault. Some trees are void of leaves, leaves that have only been out 1 week!!!! The roads are blanketed in feces which looks like black sand. At one point I was covered in about a dozen catepillars which were suspended from silk over the road. This could be a great year for birds, at least the first clutch. There will perhaps be quiet a crash if these insects eat themselves out of house and home.
