It seems like I have seen more sapsuckers this fall/winter, but that is a casual observation. I only have one that hangs around my yard and eats at the suet. He is king of the suet and will not let the Red Bellied Woodpeckers in the yard. It should be interesting when the Red Headed Woodpeckers come back to see who comes out on top. I have not noticed this aggressive behavior until this year. I believe it to be the same male that I have had for the past couple years. When he arrived this fall he went right to the suet as if he knew where it should be!
