Subject: SAS VMS performance problem
Content-Type: text/plain

Hi,

Running on a DEC Alpha 4000 5/300, we 've got big performance problem when working with large datasets.

We would like to compare a file with 10,000,000 records with another one containing also about 10,000,000 records. The compared field is a variable $40.

As a first test, we tried to the process with only 1,000,000 records in each file: Elapsed time 9 hours, cpu time 15 minutes. We are nearly the only user of this machine. So most of the ressources are not shared with other processes.

Just to have a point of comparison, we did the same test on a PC PII 233Mhz local hard disk Win NT: 5 minutes !!!!

Any idea to tune SAS and/or Alpha parameters (hardware ?) ?

Thanks,

Stef.
