Dear SAS'ls

This question is on behalf of a colleague who has just gone on holiday and left me with his job/problem!!

He is using the 'filevar' parameter on the 'infile' statement to read in data from external files. Unfortunately, because these files are migrated to tape, whenever they are in use by someone else's job his SAS program abends, rather than waiting for the datasets to become free. For those of you who have not guessed yet, this is under the MVS operating system in batch using JCL. Hopefully someone out there has experienced this or a similar problem and can provide a solution (other than saying to code the dataset allocations in the JCL!
