Subject:   Announce: AInstaller V1.0 - An installation program for SAS/AF developers
Content-Type:   text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi,

Since I do not want to spend too much money on commercial installation programs and wanted to take my Delphi skills to the test, I created a program called AInstaller which sole purpose is making the installation of any SAS/AF application on the end users PC a breeze. Instead of hard coding AInstaller for a specific project, which was very tempting recently, I have put every effort into generalizing it and it has now reached a state of which it should be able fullfill the common demands of an installation program. Here is what AInstaller features:

* Application file installation/copying * Creating directories * Modification of AUTOEXEC.SAS/CONFIG.SAS based on user input * Shortcut and folder creation * Translation of user messages * Validation of local or network PC SAS location * Forcing a specific SAS release * An "Important installation notes" window (i.e. README.TXT) * A "Launch application after install" prompt * Shaded backgrounds + some more features...

Coming soon:

- Although a "Windows Registry" tab is visible, it is not quite ready, but will be soon. Since AInstaller can do the most common tasks now and since not many AF applications uses the Windows registry, I decided to release AInstaller now. Have patience and the Registry will work shortly :o) - Support for multiple floppy disk build - File compression

AInstaller is until further notice to be considered freeware, but this may be subject to change.

All the end user needs to do is simply run SETUP.EXE as if it was any other Windows application they would install.

To get AInstaller V1.0 simply click here: http://home1.inet.tele.dk/karstenh

I hope you will download the program and I am very anxious to here your oppinion, or receive bug reports (perrish the thought :o)).

Best regards,
