The only info I have on this that might help was published in "SAS Communications" years ago. I'll fax it to you if you send me a fax address.

The article in SAS Comm also references a paper from SUGI 13 (Jurassic Era) Proceedings by Sarah Howey Dietrich entitled "Creating a Shipping Information System Using SAS Software and Barcodes." I never saw the article but I imagine its out there somewhere.
