Telecommunication company, MCI at Colorado location usually hires contractors from Headhunters. You should get information from them. Since U.K. (Pound) has higher value than U.S.A. (Dollar $), you should compromise/consider the difference in relocation & salary.

Martin, Do you happen to be a US citizen or legal resident of the US? If not, there are laws and procedures to prevent you from "displacing" a native worker or even from entering the country. Do you have much experience? In what industry? Unless you can get someone to testify that you have skills which are not available from a native, it will be difficult for you to legally work in the US.

There are quite a few "body shops" which can place you without understanding the acronyms on your resume. These positions pay $25/hr - $35/hr in a large city. You may be able to get a copy of the Denver Post internationally, to read the local ads. There are also consulting houses which hire you on salary and place you in contracts. I have not looked at the rates recently. Once you know someone, you may be able to contract directly. This avoids the agency fees, but involves you in business details an employee can ignore.

If you have a usenet newsgroup reader (or a web browser pointed at DejaVu), there are newsgroups for US contracts and for individual states or areas (I check something like ba.contracts for San Francisco Bay Area positions when this contract gets me down).

Sent by:"Martin Banks" <M.Banks@ADDER.DEMON.CO.UK> I'm a SAS contractor currently working in the UK but I want to try to get work in the US preferably in Minnesota or Colorado.

Does anybody have any pointers for me? How does contracting in the US differ to the UK? Are there agencies there I can contact? Your help is appreciated.

Martin
