The following part-time position is now open with the Unversity of Texas at Austin, Academic Computing and Instructional Technologies Services, Statistical Services Group. We support UT-Austin and other UT-System faculty, staff, and students by consulting on research design, data analysis, and interpretation of results. In particular, we support the use of statistical software including SAS, SPSS, and Minitab. Monthly salary: $1326 NEGOTIABLE depending upon qualifications.

20.00 hours per week; work hours: FLEXIBLE

Schedule will be determined at hiring; prefer Monday-Friday afternoons.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS VACANCY: (used for matching) Bachelor's degree. One year of experience in systems design, analysis and programming. (High school graduation or GED requires four more years of the experience above. Fifteen undergraduate hours substitute for six months of experience, up to three and one-half years.) ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED OF ALL APPLICANTS: Experience using Windows. Experience using a statistical software package. Experience using Netscape. Experience using Microsoft Word. Experience using a personal computer or microcomputer. Experience using SPSS computer software. Experience using SAS software. Experience using a variety of microcomputer applications. Experience using Macintosh System 7. Experience in data analysis and computer programming.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's or Doctoral degree. Graduate level coursework in applied statistics and research design. Two years' experience using SPSS or SAS software on multiple operating systems. Experience teaching applied statistics and research methodology. Demonstrated knowledge of econometrics and/or biometrics. Experience in using Internet tools and web publishing.

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION: Support Academic Computing and Instructional Technology Services Statistical Services' consulting, documentation, and training activities.

FUNCTIONS: ESSENTIAL: Consult with UT faculty, students, and staff on statistics, software, and research design. Prepare documentation on statistics and statistical software. Develop teaching materials on statistics and statistical software. Create web-based technical documentation. Perform incidental administrative tasks. MARGINAL OR INCIDENTAL: Perform other tasks as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND OTHER INFORMATION:

* EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS USED: Frequent: Macintosh PC, IBM PC, printer, copier and telephone. Occasional: fax machine and overhead projector; standard office and audio/visual equipment.

* PHYSICAL TASKS: Continuous: sitting and use of manual dexterity. Frequent: talking, listening and reading. Occasional: standing and lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.

* ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Continuous: indoor activity and exposure to fluorescent light.

* OTHER WORKING CONDITIONS: Continuous: work in shared office space, professional demeanor, self-reliance and resourcefulness. Frequent: work as a team member, independently, without day-to-day supervision, with overlapping projects and with peers, clients, and management; work in a dynamic, multi-tasked environment, have direct customer contact, communicate effectively with diverse groups and accept supervision. Occasional: weekend and evening work; work under stress, under pressure of deadlines, in various work areas, with sensitive and confidential information and in busy work area; and wear appropriate office attire.

Position is located in Austin, Texas. Regular and punctual attendance at the workplace. Security sensitive; conviction verification conducted on applicant selected.
