PROGRAMMER/ANALYST III STATISTICAL CONSULTING POSITION
DUTIES & TASKS
Consult with faculty, students, and staff on statistical, methodological
and data analytical issues; assist porting software and data between
various environments; provide general and advanced statistical and
methodological consulting; provide general and advanced data management
and analysis consulting; assist faculty, students, and staff in
integrating statistical and other analytical techniques into their
research.
Provide campus-wide expertise on use of statistical applications on
microcomputers, departmental computational servers, and OAC's
computational servers; solve the most difficult problems in large data
management and numerically intensive statistics, working as needed with
vendors, faculty and other OAC resources; and provide guidance to users
in the efficient storage, transfer and analysis of large-scale
databases; provide guidance for complex data structures such as
hierarchical and longitudinal data; and offer advice in working with
sampling and weighting protocols.
Identify the need for and specify the nature of new third party or
in-house written software; assist with the creation, documentation,
installation of new statistical or other software as required. Prepare
documentation and articles on the use of statistical software, hardware,
and consultation services for statistics and methodology; prepare and
give presentations on these capabilities and resources to faculty,
professional groups and granting agencies. Work with supervisor to
develop and execute a plan for outreach and delivery of statistical
support services to faculty, students and staff.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated working knowledge of statistics and statistical computing
tools including SAS, SPSS, and SPLUS and the role of these tools in
specific disciplines such as Public Health, Biostatistics, and Medicine
as well as general discipline areas such as the social sciences,
management, and health sciences.
Demonstrated skill to teach classes on the use of statistical software
and on selected advanced topics in statistical and database computing.
Ability to write clear and concise publication quality documentation on
topics in statistical and database computing. Communications skills to
evaluate and resolve statistical and general computing problems for OAC
users, staff, and the scientific community.
Working knowledge of the UNIX operating system and the major languages
and applications that are utilized in a university environment
including: VI, common utility programs, FTP, data storage techniques and
related software. Demonstrated ability to port software and data to new
operating environments.
Ability to stay current in knowledge and skills in statistical science,
including familiarity with work on and off-campus and relevant
professional and academic publications.
