they were probably referring to CHAID, or Chi-Square Automated Interaction
Dectection.
SAS does have a tool that performs CHAID, if you want to know more about
it you would probably have to contact SAS Professional Services. It is
not part of a standard SAS software module, at least in Version 6.
One good text on the topic is called "Pattern Recognition and Neural
Networks." Sorry, I don't have an author or publisher name handy, as I am
out of town at present.
