Subject: Canter and Siegel
For those of you who remember the infamous Canter and
Siegel episode (ah, how innocent we were in those
days; little did we dream that we'd be flooded with
unsolicited email advertising), I received the following
from the "Board of Professional Responsibility of the
Supreme Court of Tennessee," to whom I wrote after the
"On June 5, 1997, the Supreme Court of Tennessee entered
an order disbarring Laurence A Canter..."
"Mr. Canter was found guilty of numerous offences of
the Attorneys' Code of Prefessional Responsibility
(Rule 8, rules of the Supreme Court of Tennessee).
In 1994 in an incident reported in the national media he
placed an advertisement that appeared on more than 5,000
of the Internet's news groups as well as 10,000 of E-Mail
lists. The posting appeared on computer screens unsolicited,
and each reader was required to read at least a portion..."
Well, it's a hollow victory, and really won't have much
effect, considering he can practice in other states,
and that everyone and his grandmother is doing worse
these days, but it's a victory nonetheless.
Incidentally, you haven't seen much of me lately on
this newsgroup, and you won't see much of me in the
future. I'm posting very little in the hopes of cutting
the flood of unsolicited email advertising I seem to be
getting these days.

Do not send me unsolicited email advertisements. I have never and
will never buy. I will complain to your postmaster.
