Subject: MVS SAS/Web
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Hi,

A number of folks asked me to summarize the responses I got concerning using Web interfaces to SAS on an MVS and having the results returned to the Web in HTML form. Here they are. Thank you to all who responded. I will update the list when we know more (our tech folks are looking into this in more detail).

RESPONSE 1

I haven't done the SAS>HTML yet but it's coming. What I have done is develop a "Student Tracking System" using SAS, primarily for Institutional Research users. And the effort is funded by a Title III grant, so the code is public domain.

I've seen Minnesota on many SISU rosters. Do you use SIS (or any of the IA products from SCT) for administrative records?

If so, then there's probably an opportunity for synergistic dialogue; if not, then this is just more junk mail.

Good luck. Fred Stout FStout@PSTCC.CC.TN.US

RESPONSE 2

Hi Steve. we've done quite a bit of this kind of thing. We have used SAS/IntrNet Product, just plain SAS and a product called haht site from haht software corporation. You should be able to run a web server on mvs fine. When I was at the University of Georgia, we explored running a web server at that time and chose our CMS machine. Today I would highly recommend either UNIX or NT for the actual server, but you could certainly prepare the data on your mvs machine and ftp the formatted pages somewhere else...

let me know if you have any other questions or if we can help..

RESPONSE 3

Steve,

Did you get any responses to your SAS-L inquiry about Web to SAS on MVS? We are also investigating this type of situation. We are using the experimental SAS INTRANET TOOLS but need to go cross platform to access data. Moving all the data we need access to is too inefficient. I would be appreciative if you let me know what other SAS users told you. Thanks.

RESPONSE 4

It sounds like you need to start a WWW-browser, and point to http://WWW.SAS.COM and read about what SAS is doing in this area.

RESPONSE 5

On the SAS Institute web site see web tools home page http://www.sas.com/rnd/web/sitemap.html for general SAS to/from WEB stuff You might simplify things by installing the SAS/Intrnet product on your WEB server

Or the Tabulate to HTML macro introduction http://www.sas.com/rnd/web/format/tab/tabintro.html etc

Good luck

RESPONSE 6

Hi there...

I work for a SAS Consulting company called Dansys Consultants Inc., in Ottawa, Canada. For the past year and a half I've been designing SAS/WEB applications for various clients however I have not yet tried this with MVS. The majority of my projects have been with UNIX machines. If you'd like to see my current project, have a look at www.golfmax.ca. It's a project I'm doing in conjunction with the National Golf Course Owners Association of Canada.

If you have any questions, please send them along.

Regards, Craig
