Re: Client / Server :

If you want to transfer SAS datasets between different platforms, or process data remotely, or process remote data locally, etc., where SAS sessions are running on both the local client PC and the remote server, then SAS/Connect is what you want (on both platforms).

If you have many users functioning in this mode, you might also want to look into licensing SAS/SHARE on the server, so that all client sessions connect to the same server session, instead of each client session invoking a new server session.

Hi, SAS-people,

We are considering installing SAS 6.12 products on a DEC Alpha under VMS 6.2-1H3. We currently run SAS 6.09, and may add SAS/Access (to connect to Oracle) and SAS/Connect to serve client PCs (is that how a server-based SAS shop works?). Does anyone have any comments/suggestions about this (difficulties in conversion of older data sets, incompatibilities, difficulties in installation)?

Many thanks! ------------------------------------------------- Andy E. Barnett aebarnet@intrex.net Raleigh, NC, USA
