SURVIVAL ANALYSIS FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH

Edinburgh June 16th - 18th 1997

ABOUT SURVIVAL ANALYSIS:

Survival analysis is suited to the examination of data where the outcome of interest is 'time until a specific event occurs', and where not all individuals have been followed up until the event occurs.

The methods of survival analysis are applicable not only in studies of patient survival, but also studies examining adverse events in clinical trials, time to discontinuation of treatment, duration in community care before re-hospitalisation, contraceptive and fertility studies etc.

ABOUT THE COURSE:

The course would be useful for those interpreting survival analyses, or wishing to undertake their own analyses.

It aims to provide an understanding of these powerful and relatively new statistical techniques. However, only limited mathematics and statistical background will be assumed, so the course will be suitable for numerate scientists involved in this type of research.

The course will be given by Geoff Cohen & Pamela Warner, staff of the Medical Statistics Unit at the University of Edinburgh.

The course fee includes course notes and a text-book, and there is a reduction for individuals from academic institutions.

OTHER COURSES OFFERED BY Medical Staistics Unit:

Clinical Trials: 11-13 June 1997

Mixed Models Analysis Using SAS: 25-27 June 1997 & 24-26 September 1997
