Bay Area SAS Independent Consultants to Meet Thursday, February 6, 1997
The next meeting of BASIC --Bay Area SAS Independent Consultants-will be
held Thursday evening, February 6 at Francesco s Restaurant in Oakland.
Appetizers and no-host cocktails will be available starting at 6:30 PM,
and dinner will be served at 7:30 PM.
We will have two speakers at our February meeting.
-- Steve Wilson, Co-Chair of WUSS 1997, will give us an overview of our
annual regional SAS user conference, to be held this fall in the Los
Angeles area. Steve will discuss ways to become involved in WUSS, such as
giving papers, serving as a session coordinator and other opportunities
for participation. Steve s day job is with Resource Biometrics in
Emeryville and he has been a frequent speaker at local and regional SAS
System user conferences, as well as at SUGI.
-- Sy Truong will be giving an informative presentation, called The SAS
Consultant s Guide to the Web. Sy is an independent consultant whose
firm, Meta-X Software, has recently been selected as a Quality Partner of
SAS Institute. His talk will feature essential World Wide Web resources
for Bay Area SAS consultants, including job search sites, SAS-L, and SAS
Institute resources on the Internet. He will also tell us how to: go
about creating your own web page, select an Internet service provider, and
register your domain name. Sy has also been active with the Western Users
of SAS Software organization and played a key role at the 1996 meeting as
Publications Coordinator for the Conference Proceedings. In addition to
his work as a SAS Software consultant he maintains four websites and
several intranets.
Francesco s is located on Hegenburger Road, off of Interstate 880. When
coming either north or south on 880, taken the Hegenburger Road/Oakland
Airport exit and follow the signs to the airport. Turn right on Pardee
Road, and right again in to the restaurant parking lot.
BASIC is a SAS Institute, Inc. recognized local SAS User Group which has
been formed to meet the needs of independent SAS System consultants, as
well as those SAS System users who are considering making the transition
to independent consulting, in the San Francisco Bay Area. We meet every
other month for dinner, and invite speakers who talk about issues of
interest to independent consultants. These meetings give attendees a
chance to improve their consulting skills, network with other SAS
consultants, and see old friends (and make new ones).
Cost for the meeting is $28, payable by check to Sierra Information
Service, Inc. This cost covers a full course meal, including appetizers
and dessert. Please write on your check your choice of one of the
following two entrees: a) Veal Parmegiana with Risotto or b) Fillet of
Red Snapper Dore. Your canceled check serves as your receipt. We MUST
receive your check NOT LATER THAN Monday, February 3 to ensure your place
at the meeting.
Please note: Attendance at the February 6 meeting is strictly limited to
SAS System users who are either currently independent consultants or who
are considering becoming an independent consultant in the future. As
there are many other opportunities to advertise SAS System consulting
positions, we ask that recruiters and search firm representatives please
respect our attendance policy.
Please contact Andrew Karp at 415/441-0702 if you have any questions.
