Ian raises another interesting point about Subject lines. I am known to
favour them being as 'informative' as possible - but there clearly are
potential problems if a Subject line changes mid-thread (even if that is a
'unannounced' spin-off from another thread). I don't think it's only Ian,
nor even human beings in general, that assume responses will retain the same
title; some mail management software sorts and/or builds into threads (or
even rejects!) mail on the basis of the Subject lines.
... another good reason, I would suggest, for producing an 'informative'
Subject line in the first place.
