Subject: Tab delimited files in SAS

Greetings!

I have recently changed jobs and am without my copy of the manuals. Therefore I come to the Net for wisdom.

I am trying to determine if SAS can read a file that uses tabs as delimiters rather than spaces or commas. The data warehouse being used (Red Brick) can easily output a file with tabs, but requires much time to output a file with commas. If SAS could read the tab delimited file it would save two steps in the analysis and much computer time.

Can you specify a nonprintable character as a delimiter using the DELIMITER keyword on the INFILE statement? If you change the delimiter, are other keywords required, such as DSD?

The platform is Windows, the version of SAS is 6.10.

Thanks.

Harry Sharp
