Clark,

That is certainly good advice. I would like to suggest that Machiko also consider acquiring the SAS Guide to VSAM Processing, Version 6, First Edition. This book presents a good basic overview of the three types of VSAM data sets, VSAM accessing modes, and the SAS code needed to process them. If he is going to do a lot of VSAM processing, this reference book will lay a solid foundation.

I hope that this suggestion proves helpful now, and in the future!

Of course, all of these opinions and insights are my own, and do not reflect those of my organization or my associates.
