Subject: Re: Can SAS DDE to Excel and get Field names in First Row?

Hi, everyone,

I am a newbies to this group. Please forgive my ignorant question:

1. Can read a data file ( *.dat ), probably a SAS one into a spreadsheet, or TSP or any other statistical sofware to prepare for processing it ?

I tried with MS-Excel, but the file is too large, and in the near future, it would be many times larger. At present, it is about > 13MB, and I have tens of them waiting for me.

2. The file contains raw data only, with the names of the variables in another file *.dct, with column numbers to begin with for each variables.

Can I read the variables one at a time, or in batch mode ?

Any help, hints, or advices are gratefully appreciated. BTW, how much is a PC SAS for a PC DOS / Win95 single-user ? And where can I buy it ?

Once more thank you very much.

Minh Nguyen
