Subject: SAS Access To FOCUS Data

Ken:

Before we went "relational", we used FOCUS for data management, and often had a need to use other languages to process FOCUS data. We had alot of trouble with FOCUS's host level language (HLL) support (used with PL/I), and found the best way to share FOCUS data with other languages/applications was indirectly.

For each FOCUS database, we had a set of FOCEXECs that issued TABLE language commands to dump the database data (we could select specific fields if we needed to) to a flat file, which was then processed by some other langauge/application.

A couple other places to try for information is FOCUS-L, the FOCUS counter part to SAS-L, and FUSE, the FOCUS users organization (some- one may have written a procedure). FUSE chapter contact information should be available from IBI.

Good Luck !

-Gerry
