Subject: Too Much Mail
Hello SASlers,
the number of mails on SAS-L list which are not interesting for everybdoy is
very big. This is not a special problem of SAS-L.
Therefore on other lists there is an option to restrict the topis of mails a
user will receive. It works like this:
* The listserver offers a list of topics which are diskussed on the list.
* Every user who does not want to get all mail has to tell the listserver in
which of this topics (s)he is interested in.
* Everybody who posts the list has to include some of the topic keyword in
the subject line of his/her posting.
An exampe of this is the windows95 list:
>From: "L-Soft list server at PEACH.EASE.LSOFT.COM (1.8b)"
> <LISTSERV@PEACH.EASE.LSOFT.COM>
>
>> SET WIN95-L TOPICS: -BACKUP -BUGS -HARDWARE
>Your subscription options have been successfully updated. Here are the exact
>settings now in use for your subscription. Please take a few moments to
>check that this is indeed what you wanted.

>NOREPRO You do not receive a copy of your own postings
>ACK Short e-mail acknowledgement of successfully processed
> postings
>NOFILE You do not receive a copy of NJE files sent to the list

For SAS-L the following topis could be taken into consideration:
LANGUAGE
MACRO
STAT
ETS
IML
GRAPH
AF
OR
CONNECT
ASSIST
PC-FORMATS
OTHER
ALL
