Subject:   How About SAS With VSAM
Comments:   To: SWS3%Rates%FAR@go50.comp.pge.com, GAR2%Rates%FAR@go50.comp.pge.com

Does anyone have experience with SAS applications maintaining VSAM data? I am looking at about a gigabyte of data (0.5 3390 disk pacs), which would represent a year of data. Each day, roughly 1/365th of it would be replaced. The application will be in SAS because that is what we use. The data may be useful to parts of the business which do not use SAS. Someone suggested I store the data in VSAM files, so that CICS or COBOL could access it. Returning to my original question, does anyone have experience with SAS applications maintaining VSAM data? Will it be faster or slower than using SAS databases? Will it be larger or smaller than using SAS databases? The code will be SAS 6.08 on MVS, and there would probably be either two or three indexes whether we use SAS or VSAM.
