Subject:   help with SAS/ASSIST

Friends:

I am using SAS/ASSIST in my marketing research class (I am the teacher). I though the idea of SAS/ASSIST is to enable novice to use SAS without the need to know how to program SAS, but I find out that most of my students have difficulties working with the system. As a matter of fact I encounter several difficulties that without my knowledge of the SAS system I could not have solved. I was searching for a manual for SAS/ASSIST (the idea of a manual might defeat the original idea) but could not find one that is available (I found one listed but the local rep in Hong Kong told me that we don't have it in stock). In any case I wonder if my frustration with SAS/ASSIST is uniquely mine or if others share my experiences.

Finally I would like to ask for help on how to enter data interactively using SAS/ASSIST (I think SAS/ASSIST is using FSEDIT procedure). After I define the variables and end with the END command from the VIEW option I get a screen that should allow me to enter the data but the computer does not accept any entry (it just beep in disagreement). Any suggestions on what am I doing wrong.

Thanks,

Rami Zwick
