Subject: ASCII editor

Can anyone suggest a good PC-based ASCII editor? A group of programmers who work with social science and health-related data require an editor to view and edit raw data that come from a variety of sources. Many times we do not receive adequate documentation for these data, i.e., file layout for fixed format files. Our wish list of features follows:

- large file size (limited by memory only? - ex. 2 million records) - large record length (> 1000 bytes) - displays column numbers - displays line numbers - scrolls from left to right instead of wrap - ability to edit non-printable ASCII characters (ex. tab, line feeds) - columnar cut and paste - mouse support - supports non-proportional font - Windows clipboard support - ability to mark blocks with mouse or line numbers - ability to save in DOS/UNIX-Mac formats (CR-LF/CR only) - ability to mark location within file and return to marked location ("bookmarks")

Any suggestions will be welcome. Please respond directly to me.
