I don't think a workstation install uses JBOSS at all. That is normally used for servers. For that matter, SAS does not install JBOSS; when appropriate, you need to install it yourself (it's a prerequisite).
Are you sure SAS gave you the correct plan file? Since Enterprise Miner typically is licensed for servers (and as far as I know the server part is required even if you want to install just to your workstation), they may have sent you to plan file for your server.
In your case, I would not use a plan file at all. When you run the Deployment Wizard, select the second option "Install SAS Foundation and Related Software". From the next page, make sure that the item labled "SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation Configuration" is checked. There may be other products listed that are not checked but that you also will want to install. Just keep clicking "Next" to complete the install.
However, before you do that I'd suggest completely removing everything you have installed. You can do that using the "SAS Deployment Manager", which should be available from your "Start->Programs->SAS" menu. That should remove any of the unnecessary bits clogging your system right now.
And a final caution: this is just my opinion. I strongly suggest that you get someone from SAS Tech Support on the phone to discuss. I agree, installing is not as easy as it should be, but the process is getting simpler with every new release. This "EM Workstation Configuration" is brand new and MUCH easier than before.
Good luck,
Bob

Subject: Can't install Enterprise Miner 7.1 on Windows XP 32-bit (JBOSS?)
Hi,
I've been trying to install SAS Enterprise Miner 7.1 for hours as a
standalone install on Windows XP 32-bit, and the SAS support doesn't seem
to be forthcoming. The install proceeds with the plan file they gave me,
but doesn't seem to install the JBOSS web server component during the
installation.
Starting up the Miner asks me for a server name, defaulting to port 8080,
but since the install didn't actually put the server in (that I can tell),
of course it can't find it.
Can anyone help? My Dept head is going nuts that we dropped so much cash on
this software to have it be so difficult to install. And needlessly so, I
think.
