My first male Ruby-throated hummingbird returned on Tuesday, April 3, the same date as last year. It always amazes me that he finds me in the woods here in Northern Banks County. Soon we'll have a pair and a family. Last year's nest is still clinging to a small limb off the deck. I heard a Hooded Warbler this week as well, in the Mountain Laurel which is already showing pink buds. A month early! Mary Ellen Myers, Banks County
