I haven't installed EG in a while, but when I did, there was a dialog concerning assigning .sas extensions (plus the others) to EG or leave as-is. I have my .sas extension assigned to SAS Universal Viewer so a double-click will open the viewer instead of an instance of SAS (or EG). I don't know if this is still done for the recent EG installs. You could always install SAS Universal Viewer after EG and have it re-assign .sas extension to it, which would be better than EG, IMHO.
