Subject: is it even possible to assign the ".sas" extension to "sas.exe"?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Hi Folks, I believe I had a problem with this in the past, and probably fixed it, but because I'm the local "sas guy" I periodically test installations so ... (and now am being asked about it)

Anyway, This is a Win 7 box and SAS 9.3 (TS1M0)

I *don't* want files with an extension of ".sas" to be associated with Enterprise Guide, I want them associated with "sas.exe" ... Nothing against EG, but I just want it set up _this_ way, not the default (which, I believe, happens because EG is installed after the rest of the product is -- at least it was in older versions, such as 9.1.3, and you were prompted about the file associations)

And SAS even has a way to do this: a menu item: SAS > Utilities > Manage SAS File Types.

Checking, I see I can associate a host of files with SAS Enterprise Guide 4.3 or ... well, there is no alternative. Not "sas", not notepad, not anything. So I can deselect all? And that is it? Is there some purpose to this tool that is not apparent? The "Help" provides none. --Joe
