It was a great day for waterfowl diversity in Augusta. I birded Phinizy Swamp Nature Park and the Merry Brothers Brickyard Ponds (8am-2:30pm) 17 species of waterfowl; 89 total species between the two properties.

I've combined the two eBird lists - abbreviations: (B) for Brickyards, (P) for Phinizy

Black-bellied Whistling-Duck 2 adults, 4 immatures; all together in impoundments at Phinizy SNOW GOOSE 1 Blue morph, reported earlier from Phinizy Canada Goose 25(B), 5(P) Wood Duck 2 (P) Gadwall 68 (B) American Wigeon 27(B) Mallard 26 (P), 14 (B) Northern Shoveler 6 (B) NORTHERN PINTAIL 1m, 1f (B) Blue-winged Teal 43 all in impoundments at Phinizy Green-winged Teal (American) 8 (P), 12 (B) CANVASBACK 1f in huge raft of other Aythya ducks; in pond bisected by I-520 at Brickyards Redhead 3m, 3f same raft Ring-necked Duck 220, major component of that huge flock GREATER SCAUP 2f, separate from others; round/ flat head; preening (showing white in primaries) Lesser Scaup 45 (B) Ruddy Duck 275 huge single-species group at Brickyards

Common Loon 4 (B) all in basic plumage Pied-billed Grebe 38 (B) 37 (P) Double-crested Cormorant 125 (B), 32 (P) Anhinga 14 all at Brickyards Great Blue Heron 18 (P) Great Egret 24(B), 65 (P) White Ibis 3 (B)

Wild Turkey 28, vocalizing in the woods at Phinizy Turkey Vulture 2 Northern Harrier 1 (P) Red-shouldered Hawk 2 Red-tailed Hawk 1 American Kestrel 1 (P), 1 (B) Sora 7, walking in the open at Phinizy Common Gallinule 45 American Coot 1100 in massive strings at (B)

Killdeer 3 Greater Yellowlegs 1 Lesser Yellowlegs 1 Least Sandpiper 4 DUNLIN 16, the Brickyard flock has apparently grown from recent reports Ring-billed Gull 6 (B)
