Allison and I went to Johnson Ferry North Unit in the afternoon on
Thursday, 10/27, Sunday, 10/30, and today, 11/1. Each time, we walked
the petroleum pipeline cut up the middle of the sparrow field, around
the edges of the gravel parking lot and up the trail to the boardwalk
area and back. Over the three visits we've observed 10 sparrow species
including a HENSLOW'S and GRASSHOPPER SPARROWs this evening. Over all
three visits there have been numerous SONG, SWAMP, and WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWs, and EASTERN TOWHEEs. Below is a list of the additional
sparrows (and other notables) we have seen on each day:
10/27/2011:
----------------
Chipping Sparrow 3
Lincoln's Sparrow 1, this is the last day we found the Lincoln's
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 1
Winter Wren 1, FOTS
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Palm Warbler (Yellow) 1
10/30/2011:
----------------
Field Sparrow 3
Vesper Sparrow 2, along the edge of the sparrow field in the gravel
parking lot
Winter Wren 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet 1, FOTS
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
11/01/2011:
----------------
Field Sparrow 3
Vesper Sparrow 2
Grasshopper Sparrow 1, in the brush on the edge of the sparrow field
near the gravel parking lot. Viewed from the middle of the sparrow field.
Henslow's Sparrow 1, at the very north part of the sparrow field, just
before the two parallel trails merge before getting to the boardwalk.
Flushed from very close to the path both on the way in and the way out.
Winter Wren 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
