***************************************** 1. CURRENT STUDY ABROAD STUDENTS - PLEASE REGISTER ONLINE WITH US DEPARTMENT OF STATE https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/ What is Travel Registration? Travel registration is a free service provided by the U.S. Government to U.S. citizens who are traveling to, or living in, a foreign country. Registration allows you to record information about your trip abroad that the Department of State can use to assist you in case of an emergency, travel alerts, travel warnings, etc.

Americans residing abroad can also get routine information from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. U.S. consular officers assist Americans who encounter serious legal, medical, or financial difficulties. Although consular officers cannot act as your legal counsel, they can provide the names of local attorneys and doctors, provide loans to destitute Americans, and provide information about dangerous conditions affecting your overseas travel or residence.

To Register: Visit https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/ If you have not had the opportunity to read the Country Specific Information for your country, we strongly recommend that you do so before departure. A current listing of all Consular Information Sheets, Travel Warnings, and Public Announcements can be found at www.travel.state.gov<http://www.travel.state.gov/>

***************************************** 3. UGA vs. Oxford Debate – upcoming event

For the fourth time in a decade, the University of Georgia will be hosting a team from the Oxford Union Society for a competitive, international debate. The event brings together the elite debaters from both Universities and showcases the very valuable, long-standing academic partnership between UGA and the University of Oxford.

The debate topic is “Resolved: China’s economic and military rise threatens the interests of the United States and Great Britain in the 21st century.” This topic will likely access such issues as human rights and federal policy toward atrocities committed in foreign countries, alliances and stabilizing influences on the Korean peninsula, and throughout the Eastern Hemisphere, Western debt in the region, and the recent round of high-level talks during the State Visit of China’s President Hu. The UGA team will argue for the affirmative.

The debate will be presented at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, 8 March 2011, in the UGA Chapel on North Campus in front of a panel of distinguished judges including UGA's President Michael Adams and Provost Jere Morehead. The debate is free and open to the public. For more information visit www.uga.edu/oxford<http://www.uga.edu/oxford>.

A poster is preceded by an abstract of no more than 250 words. Key terms used in the paper are listed immediately below the abstract.
