3. UGA vs. Oxford Debate - tonight, march 8 @ 7pm, UGA Chapel
For the fourth time in a decade, the University of Georgia will be hosting a team from the Oxford Union Society for a competitive, international debate. The event brings together the elite debaters from both Universities and showcases the very valuable, long-standing academic partnership between UGA and the University of Oxford.
The debate topic is "Resolved: China's economic and military rise threatens the interests of the United States and Great Britain in the 21st century." This topic will likely access such issues as human rights and federal policy toward atrocities committed in foreign countries, alliances and stabilizing influences on the Korean peninsula, and throughout the Eastern Hemisphere, Western debt in the region, and the recent round of high-level talks during the State Visit of China's President Hu. The UGA team will argue for the affirmative.
The debate will be presented at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, 8 March 2011, in the UGA Chapel on North Campus in front of a panel of distinguished judges including UGA's President Michael Adams and Provost Jere Morehead. The debate is free and open to the public. For more information visit www.uga.edu/oxford<http://www.uga.edu/oxford>.
