I normally report on birds that I see around Jekyll & Glynn County. Today, I have to report on birders I see on Jekyll. Vanessa Lane walked into Wild Birds Unlimited Nature Shop on Jekyll. She was excited about her morning of birding. It was delightful to see her excited face as she told me about her morning. I have been birding for a very long time and birds still excite me but now-a-day birders do too. She made my quiet day. I now work at the Visitor Center out of the Jekyll Island Causeway on Tuesday. I see birders past right by the door and never sign in as birder. How can we be a force if we don't tell the places we bird what we are doing? Stop by and let us know that you are birders. We NEED to know. I am tracking the number of nature watchers vs. the visitor. Stand up and be counted. Help me help you.
In the meantime, there is a Whimbrel feeding at the visitor center along with avocets and dowitchers. The Wood Storks are back nesting at the Amphitheater. I am still waiting to report that the spoonbills are nesting but nothing yet. As of Thursday there are 3 pairs of Wilson's Plover at the south end.
Good birding this weekend.
