You appear to be assuming that all 1000 records in table A to have a match
in table B. If the assumption is correct, then you could probably do
proc sort data=tablea;
proc sort data=tableb;
data matched extras;
merge tablea (in=a) tableb(in=b);
if a and b then output matched;
else if b then output extras;
