I already feared something like that Martyn,
Just for the record, you postings appear unreadable on SAS-L, e.g.

possibly because of some charset that you send them in.

Hi Art,
I can add to that that the problematic formatting only occurs in SAS 9.1.3
with the decimal seconds of .672, not with .670, .671, .673 or .674. I
haven't been looking further.
