Thank you John!! I'm working my way through your tutorials and I'm convinced to use syntax!
I had to decode two words from the British to the American use (full stop = period and brackets=parentheses) and figure out what the word prime means in this context i.e. prime symbol ( ' ).
Again, thank you,
Jan McClure

See my answer to value labels. Missing values are covered in the same tutorial:
Labelling your values in SPSS
missing values <varlist1> (<value list1>)
/<varlist2> (<value list2>)
etc. etc.
Don't forget the full stop to end the sentence or the primes round the value labels when you do those.
All my tutorials are gentle, step-by-step, with screenshots at each step, and are syntax based in preference to drop-down menus, but most have parallel examples of the menus as well.

Hi,
Sorry, I should have also asked how to repeatedly enter the missing data value.
Thanks!
Jan
