Subject: Question about GuessingRows Non-Windows Systems

In a Windows environment when one has a mixture of character and numeric data in a column of an Excel spreadsheet, we know that proc import's behavior will be dependent upon the combination of the system's GuessingRows setting and how many of those rows are character.

Do non-Windows systems have a similar setting or is the behavior of proc import strictly controlled by the distribution of character values in the first eight rows of the spreadsheet?

Thanks in advance, Art
