While I agree that the OP should get qualified legal advice and
that SAS-L is not a forum for expert legal advice, it is quite
clear that the websites which Michael points to have nothing to
do with the computer software business which is headquartered
in Cary, N.C. On the other hand, the website which was formerly
sasconsig.com did (and still does) offer services related to the
computer software business located in Cary, N.C. I believe that
the folks in Cary are careful to protect usage of the SAS brand
name when the use of such name could be viewed as some official
recognition of the products or services offered as being certified
by SI.
So, if services related to use of SAS software are being offered,
I think SI will come at you with their team of lawyers. It would
be best to be prepared with a great legal case for why you should
be able to use the SAS brand name in your website name before
you get established and have to fight to keep the name or have
to change the name after your business has been established.
That's just my $0.02, which ain't worth diddly these days.
