I was at Clyde Shepherd a little later than Stan and did manage to get a great view of a black and white warbler (BAWW), a red-shouldered hawk (RSHA) getting mobbed by four american crows (AMCR), a ruby throated humming bird (RTHU) on the remains of the old rotted tree that fell a few years ago, and a green heron (GRHE) near the beaver dam.

Hello birders,

I had two hours this morning to check out Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve in Decatur (DeKalb Co.) today and saw two species which I personally had never seen there before, both from the observation platform: the little blue heron and two orchard orioles. The little blue heron flew several times into the vicinity of the Canada goose nest, and was chased off each time by agitated geese. Other highlights included four eastern kingbirds, some barn swallows intermixed with the more numerous northern rough-winged swallows, a flock of 13 cedar waxwings, a red-shouldered hawk, many wood thrushes and an orange-crowned warbler. The only other warblers I saw or heard were pines, several yellow-rumped, a couple of western palm warblers, and several singing common yellowthroats. Warbler migration remains very slow at this location.

Cheers, Stan Chapman, DeKalb County
