Subject:   GOS Winter Meeting 1/15-1/18 2010 - Tybee Island
Content-Type:   text/plain; charset=utf-8

The winter meeting of the Georgia Ornithological Society will be held on Tybee Island from Friday, January 15, through Monday, January 18, 2010. This is the MLK Holiday Weekend. Our headquarters hotel is the Ocean Plaza Beach Resort.

Dr. Jim Cox of Tall Timbers will be the Friday night speaker, and will talk about how lightning season burning impacts breeding birds. Saturday night will feature a poster session, banquet, and program presented by Dr. Sidney Gauthreaux of Clemson University. Dr. Gauthreaux will talk about how the use of thermal imagery and radar has benefited the study of bird migration.

Field trip destinations on Saturday, Sunday and Monday will include Tybee Island North Beach, Fort Pulaski National Monument, Savannah NWR, “near-shore” pelagic trips, Little Tybee Island, Savannah “Hotspots,” Glennville Water Treatment Facility and Harris Neck NWR. After the field trips on Sunday there will be a “Flocking” at the Ocean Plaza Beach Resort from 5:00 until 6:30 PM.

Information about registration, field trips, banquet, and hotel can be found at the following link: http://www.gos.org/meetings/meetings.html

We hope to see you there! Bob Sargent
