Greetings all,
Had the last two days off. Friday (10/23) I went to the Suwanee Creek
Greenway. Finally got onto some wintering residents- kinglets, WT Sparrows,
etc. Best bird of the day was a late EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE. I watched it
sally out from the same perch several times. It had the nice long, lean
gizz, long wings, long narrow bill with yellow mandible. I had one last
year on Oct 18.
Spent this morning at Little Mulberry Park, finding the typical and
expected. Best find was two different WINTER WRENS, my FOS. These were
both along the Ravine Loop Trail, which is about the only place in this park
I can ever find them. I had hoped today would be a raptor migration day,
but it didn't seem to work out. I did see a few Turkey Vultures bookin' it
south, one at a time, but no defined movements.
On the other hand, for those willing to sit still for a few hours, Sunday
might be a good day. Weather forecasts across the north half of the state
are calling for clear skies and light north winds. Stronger winds would be
more ideal, but if birds have been pinned down the last couple of days, they
might well be on the move.
