Hi GA birders,
Bill O'Grady, Karla O'Grady, Richard Hall, James Neves and I walked Cook's Trail from Sandy Creek Park to Sandy Creek Nature Center this morning. Magnolia Warblers were thick, and it continues to be a great year for both Philadelphia Vireos and Gray-cheeked Thrushes. Some of our highlights were:
Common Nighthawk 2 (late-ish flyovers at campground parking)
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 7 (lots of juveniles)
Northern Flicker (Yellow-shafted) 16 (always in earshot)
Eastern Wood-Pewee 4
Empidonax sp. 1 (in canopy, probably Acadian)
White-eyed Vireo 2
Yellow-throated Vireo 1
PHILADELPHIA VIREO 2 (one dull, another pretty yellow)
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3
Gray-cheeked Thrush 3
Swainson's Thrush 5
Wood Thrush 9
Gray Catbird 18
Brown Thrasher 27
Scarlet Tanager 4
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW 2 (FOTS here in Athens)
Rose-breasted Grosbeak 2
Warblers:
Tennessee Warbler 2
Northern Parula 1
Chestnut-sided Warbler 6
Magnolia Warbler 35
Pine Warbler 4
Bay-breasted Warbler 2
Black-and-white Warbler 2
American Redstart 6
Common Yellowthroat 3
Hooded Warbler 2
Good birding,
Joel McNeal
