Subject: Installing SAS/IML Studio 3.2
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

All,

At step 4 of the IML Studio 3.2 installation process (see http://www.sas.com/software/distribution/readme/statstudio__92120/readme_109618.pdf ) the installer defaults to "C:\Program Files\SAS". If I go with the default, the SAS Deployment Wizard then reports that

The SAS Home location specified contains existing files. While SAS software, such as SAS Foundation or SAS clients from earlier releases, will not be affected, proceeding with the installation will overwrite any products of the exact same version you are attempting to install.

Do you want to continue?

What does this mean? If I respond in the affirmative, will my entire 9.2 installation (which is located in C:\Program Files\SAS) be trashed? I would think that IML Studio 3.2, which operates with SAS version 9.2, would want to be located with the other 9.2 products. But that note above has me concerned about that assumption. IML Studio 3.2 effectively is part of version 9.2. But in some sense IML Studio 3.2 is a standalone product. It is started in its own window session, so may not be considered part of version 9.2.

In addition, the "Help" button of the SAS Deployment Wizard indicates that whatever directory is selected here will become the permanent SAS Home directory. If I point the wizard to a directory other than "C:\Program Files\SAS", then it seems that all future SAS deployments will go into whatever directory is specified by my selection. I don't know that I want all future SAS deployments to go into a directory that I select for IML Studio just so as to avoid compromising my SAS 9.2 install.

Has anyone installed IML Studio 3.2? What directory did you specify? How did the installed product work? How does SAS work after the install?

Thanks,

Dale
