no, you need a DVD burner for that...

No, that's not enough. You need spezial drivers (as far as I remember in WIN-Vista available, otherwise bundled with some of the burning suits, like NERO) to assign the burner like a drive. If you can write to that DVD like a simulated harddrive, why not from SAS?

However it might depend on how the driver handles the DVD. Also it might be full rather fast, if you use it e.g. as the WORK-library. But I expect no real problems with that. Simply try it out!

I don't think that it's a difference between 8 and 9.
