| Subject: | NO Pacific Loon at Russell Lake and Dam on Wed. May 27 |

GABO'rs,
Brenda Brannen and I visited Russell Lake and Dam Wed. to try to spot
the Pacific Loon. No luck. We did see 3 loons at a distance around 9:30 -
10:00 am. Weather was slightly overcast, no wind, no rain. Try as we might to
see a PACIFIC LOON out there, we had no luck. After studying the 3 for about
an hour and from different locations on the dam, we left. After lunch we
returned around 3:30 pm and again saw the 3 loons, still at a distance, from
the dam. Again after 15-20 min. of observation from the dam, we decided to
go the Dam's visitor center to try for better looks since the loons were
swimming in that direction and should provide closer looks. We did, they
did and still we couldn't turn any of the 3 COMMON LOONS into a PACIFIC LOON.
Nevertheless we still had a great day of birding at the dam and at Bobby
Brown State Park and later at Magnolia State Park in Millen, GA.
Question: Why don't we see more posts from that area? It seems like a great
place to bird so I can only assume that folks in that area who bird, don't
post on GABO (leaving the posting to out-of-towners who come to bird).
Anyway, we plan on visiting again and also checking out some more areas around
there to bird.
Good Birding,
