I know I'm not operating on a typical year schedule, but the first day I
got out to bird in 08 was April 9th. I have a week an a half left to get
seven species in order to hit my goal of 365 (nationwide) for the "year".
A quick list of relatively possible birds includes:
Purple Finch
Lincoln's Sparrow
Fox Sparrow
Henslow's Sparrow
Le Conte's Sparrow
Palm Warbler
American Pipit
Gray-cheeked Thrush
Red-cockaded Woodpecker
Horned Grebe
Eastern Screech-Owl
Sandhill Crane
Greater Scaup
Merlin
Ruffed Grouse
Pectoral Sandpiper
Ross's Goose (there have been a few reports over the last couple of
months, but I've hed no luck relocating it so far. Is it still around?)
I'm going to try and relocate Ken's Palms at Cochran Shoals as well as the
Pectoral Sandpipers and Horned Grebes reported this weekend, but I don't
know if I will be able to get out today or tomorrow. I'm a full time
student and I also work 20+ hours a week so my time is pretty limited. If
anyone knows where I can reliably find any of the above species within an
hour's drive of Atlanta, I would appreciate any information you have. I
have already seen the species listed on today's RBA this "year", and
there's no way I could get down to the coastal plain or visit another
state this week. Thanks for any replies/info.
